We spent 2 nights here, our first visit to this area. Section 3 of the CG was closed and there were lots of ruts and potholes from recent heavy rains throughout the park. Rate was $25 per night no matter what you camped in, and they also charged us a $5 parking fee for our tow vehicle! Sites are spaced well and the CG was full the weekend we were there. Much to our disappointment, they allowed someone using a pavilion to set up a very loud karaoke system that could be heard throughout the park for hours and hours. It ruined the atmosphere of the park. Bath houses were clean but only 2 shower stalls per side, one tucked in the handicap toilet area. We enjoyed the surrounding area but doubt we will return to this park. Too expensive for what little it offers.

They have spots for RVs of any size although most sites are on the short side. There's a nice pool, an archery range, a general store and cabin rentals. There's also a woodworking shop that has some very neat items in it. Since it was Labor Day weekend when we were here, it was quite busy: lots of campers, people playing horseshoes, croquet and various other outdoor games. There are no full hookup sites but they do have a dump station near the general store. Most sites have water and electricity and they also have a number of primitive sites with no hookups at all. There's not a lot to do outside of the park but there is enough to do at the park to satisfy a weekend of fun. The town of Montevallo is nearby and they have anything you might need in case you forgot to pack something. Very scenic park and we enjoyed it.

We spent 3 days here and really enjoyed it. Most spots are level but we saw quite a few that were not, so choose your spot wisely. You can request another site after being assigned one if you wish. Most sites do not have sewer hookups and are W/E only. Sewer sites are $3 additional per night and the drains are all located at the front left of the site instead of the left rear so make sure you have a 20' or longer sewer hose. Lots of waterfront sites but they are $3 extra per night, worth it in my opinion if you want to swim or fish. Very family oriented park with boat ramps, beach, playground, fishing pier and marina. Nice laundry facility and a general store are available as well. We will definitely visit here again!

The site was fairly level but we did require a double stack of lynx levelers on one side. Sites are spaced apart well and separated by shrubs and trees. Bath houses are centrally located for each loop but the loop 3 bath house was closed for repairs (we were in loop 1). We lost 30A power at one time as did the site across from us but it was restored within the hour. No consolation in 99 degree heat, though. We also lost water pressure for about 2 hours one day. Ranger stated the park is 28 years old and never been upgraded but they are planning on it. Many sites are sandy and we even had to use our 4WD to pull out another camper who got stuck, we noticed a lot of sites were very uneven and some were very, very small. Large Class As might have an issue fitting in any of the sites, in fact, we didn't see any during our stay. Mostly tents, travel trailers and a few 5th wheels. Sign at the park said rates are going up to $20 per night in July 2009. Overall, it was a decent campground, close enough to visit everything yet far enough out to be away from traffic and congestion. We would stay here again if we had to but it wouldn't be our first choice.

We had to camp here as Big Lagoon CG in Pensacola was full! Gulf State Park is a very clean park next to a lake although weed growth around the lake edge hinders access to it. BBQ grills are at each site but no fire rings or other place to make a campfire of any kind. Not many trees here and most sites are simply out in the sun. We had spot #12 and it was paved and level. Hookups to W/E/S were a little far away so I had to park to the far extreme of the pad so my sewer hose would reach. Water and electric had no problem reaching (both are 25' long). There were a lot of campers here but everyone kept to themselves, only waving or speaking if you made eye contact. A laundry facility and tennis courts are under construction but didn't look like much progress had been made so far. This CG is good for a stay if you plan to visit the beach or surrounding cities as there is nothing to do in the park itself.

We spent 7 days here and had a wonderful time. We stayed for Spring Break and the first "Trade Days" event of the year and it was packed to capacity. Lots of bicycle riders (no helmets required), families with kids as well as campers of all ages in every type of RV. We hosted a scavenger hunt for the kids as well as a few other activities and it was a great time for everyone. Park was very clean although due to the crowds, the bath house ran out of hot water almost every day. Lots to see and do at the park itself, huge movie theater is only 8 miles away along with major retail shopping. They sell propane at the campground, have a small general store and a sweet shop that sells ice cream, etc.

The park was nearly at capacity when we stayed there. It was very nice, relatively quiet... lots of children playing which we enjoy. We stayed one night with full hookups at paid $22.50 with my 15% discount for the federal handicap access card. This park is near our home and we plan to visit it regularly. We had a great time here!
